Hack4Health brings together students, researchers (care) professionals, entrepreneurs, industry players, government bodies, hospitals and other stakeholders to give rise to the future of our healthcare by coming up with new ideas and building solutions that matter.

Whether it's challenging our current healthcare system or building a future-proof hospital, at Hack4Health, a room full of multidisiplinary teams and healthcare experts will explore new business models and experiment with tech prototypes to boldly advance today's perspectives.

No matter what background you have, Hack4Health is a great opportunity for you to meet likeminded people, learn about all things health care innovation and contribute towards a sustainable, scalable and digital healthcare system. And most importantly, to have fun of course!

Are you ready? Dive into the program below.

WHAT'S AT STAKE?

  TRACKS & CHALLENGES

HACK

THE SYSTEM

HACK

THE HOSPITAL

1. Reboot the system

Belgium has a robust healthcare system with a very high quality of care. With a cost that is still within acceptable boundaries if you compare it to neighbouring countries. However, with the change in demographics, lifestyle diseases, more chronic diseases… there is more and more pressure on the financing of our system. One of the challenges is to create scale in such a system, with more patients, but not more expenses. We all agree we want better outcome for the patient, and technology could play a vital role in that. Suppose you could reinvent the healthcare system, using technology to create scalability, what would you change? What role would/could/should a government play? And what would be a (small) first step to realize this reboot?

Find the challenge video here.

2. Technology for warmer care

We only truly understand how the care process works once you experience it first-hand. As a patient, you see the inside of the system and you start seeing its upsides, but also its flaws. Luckily, many care organisations put the patient front and centre. But how does a real patient experience their care path? Do they perceive the same strive for quality? Do they see opportunities for improvement? And what role could technology play?  Even though technology is often considered the big bad wolf as it takes away time to focus on the patient, how could we turn this around and use technology to really make time for the patient? Make technology as invisible as possible, but as present as needed...

Find the challenge video here.

3. From medical transaction to patient interaction

The healthcare industry is changing, and as a result of the current dynamics we’ll see more and more care taking place outside of the hospital. Hospital visits will therefore become a mere building block in the care chain. And in times where patients are becoming increasingly digitally engaged, how can a hospital better interact with patients outside the hospital? As a hospital wants to provide better care, improve patient involvement and provide both patients and healthcare professionals with the right information at the right time. What technology could help to bridge the patient and the hospital?

Find the challenge video here.

4. Integrated care pathways to go from standardized to customized care

Many of today’s efforts in the healthcare sector point towards digitally enabled integrated care pathways to provide better patient care, reduce costs and increase efficiency in hospitals and for the care system at large. When we think about patient care plans, often these are linked to clinical pathways, protocols, without much involvement from the patient. How can digital technology help to standardize care, but with the patient fully involved? As many apps for different care pathways are flooding the market, how can they be linked together in a way where care providers and patients have the same information at hand, using the same data? What data would be interesting to share, and as such providing gains for patients, care organisations, the industry and the government.
