Hack4Health brings together bright minds to rethink healthcare.
Hack4Health is your chance to be part of a vibrant multi-day event to rigorously rethink today’s healthcare system, where we all work together to design, develop and build digital solutions that boldly advance our current perspectives.
At Hack4Health, your background doesn’t matter. We’re all about bringing together a diverse group of people to collaborate and have fun, while tackling big health-related challenges and shaping the future of our healthcare system.
Meet like-minded students, researchers, professionals and entrepreneurs or network with representatives from industry players, government bodies and hospitals. Work on your own idea or get inspired by others. Explore new business models or experiment with tech prototypes. Hack4Health brings it all together to build solutions that matter.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
We know that money isn’t the reason you’re participating, but it surely doesn’t hurt to go home with one of the cash prizes! When your team wins the final pitch at the end of the event, you'll end up with €1500! But don’t worry, those aren’t the only prizes to walk away with!
At Hack4Health 2021, we'll turn our focus to the hospital, the care pathways and the data infrastructure of the future. At the same time, we understand that the patient and care provider experience should be considered a crucial common thread throughout each of the challenges we'll be trying to tackle. Below, you can learn more about what's on the agenda during the event.
The healthcare industry is changing, and as a result of the current dynamics we’ll see more and more care taking place outside of the hospital. Hospital visits will therefore become a mere building block in the care chain. And in times where patients are becoming increasingly digitally engaged, how can a hospital better interact with patients outside the hospital? As a hospital wants to provide better care, improve patient involvement and provide both patients and healthcare professionals with the right information at the right time, what technology could help to bridge the patient and the hospital?
Many of today’s efforts in the healthcare sector point towards digitally-enabled integrated care pathways to provide better patient care, reduce costs and increase efficiency in hospitals and for the care system at large. The COVID-19 pandemic has ruthlessly shown the cracks in our system when it comes to the current state of standard patient care plans, such as the unnecessary waiting list inefficiencies with regard to bariatric surgery patients (e.g. gastric bypass). Often, these care plans are linked to clinical pathways and protocols without taking into account the patient and his/her surroundings, while the current payment and reimbursement schemes neglect patient outcomes. How can we enable true integration of patient care pathways using digital technology? And how can we build the right incentive structures around that, allowing for outcome-based payments and reimbursements?
Data is the source of lots of insights these days. Nevertheless, data sources in Belgium are widely dispersed and siloed, which isn't always in the best interest of the patient. What if these data could be used to help professionals and patients make better decisions and get better health results? Or if greater medical intelligence at the hospital level results in better care and more time for the patient? What if this would ensure that we're paying for the right and most appropriate care, tied in with value-based reimbursement agreements? That's exactly what this challenge is all about: how can we make sure that data flows freely through the system while improving access, quality and interchangeability of the data, and combining datasets from multiple stakeholders, both nationally and internationally.
